Swimming just above it, you can hear a strange tapping noise. The noise is a "tap code" and not morse code as previously believed. Deciphered it says, "You never call, how d'you fancy going bowling?" This is a funny reference to Roman Bellic, the cousin of protagonist Niko Bellic from GTA IV. No one has figured out the purpose of this hatch. It remains an unsolved mystery.

GTA V - Underwater Hatch Mystery
Deep under water is a small structure embedded in the ocean floor. It has a
small rectangular window which lights up when you get closer to it. If you get too close, you will die from the crushing pressure of the water. If playing while using a "no water modification," you can climb right on top of it which shows us that thus far, there is no direct interaction available with it. This structure is believed to be a reference to The Hatch from the TV show Lost. However, that structure was above ground and
not under any water.
